Hi there!

My site has started running very slow, my host has discovered it may be the free download logs, this is what they've said:

I have been having an initial look at the site and found that there is a large folder inside uploads called free-downloads-files that on its own is over the storage limit. It presently 41.7GB. Inside there is a folder called temp-files which contains all the contents. Although it's called temp-files, we would not wish to delete that folder without knowing is impact, so can you shed any light on what the purpose of that folder is and if it's safe to remove?

Can they remove that? What is the impact? Thank you!

Hi Charlotte, this folder should be automatically cleared as part of a regular automatic maintenance script I run. Could you try deactivating my plugin and then reactivating it again? Hopefully this should kickstart the process again, which runs when downloads take place.

In the meantime it is perfectly safe to delete that folder manually.

Thank you I'll pass the info on to my host!

Do you know if the actual download logs would cause performance issues? It's a nice feature to have so my members can see what they've already downloaded, but I've got 130 pages of logs and 40gb of storage at the moment! It's a stock photo library, so maybe not best for such a large amount of downloads?

Hi Charlotte, sorry for the delay. The logs are stored as database records, and it looks like you have about 2,600 of them. That doesn't seem like enough to worry about, however, if you wanted to clear out old logs (which would clear those records from user download histories and download limits) you could use a plugin like Bulk Delete. That lets you mass delete custom post types from the database. The one for free download logs is 'somdn_tracked'.

Ok thank you for that, I deleted them, and turned off the feature, so that should be that for now.

My host alerted me to this fatal error running in the background, I think it's in regards to temporary files.

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to a member function get_downloadable_products() on null in /www/wp-content/plugins/som-free-downloads-woocommerce-pro/woo-files/somdn-woo-functions.php:474"

Does that make any sense to you? It makes none to me haha.

    Thanks!

    Charlie
